brief history

Liberty Temple Ministries Church of God in Christ (COGIC), Inc. was founded and established by Elder Charles G. Simmons, Sr. in 1997. The first service was held at the home of Deacon Julius and the late Mother Mattie Williams located at 1301 Genesee Park Boulevard, Rochester, New York.

The church grew and moved its services to a larger facility; Montgomery Neighborhood Center;    10 Cady Street.  A short time later, the church was blessed to move into the Metropolitan Funeral Chapel; 109 West Avenue. On January 30, 1998, the late Bishop Leroy R. Anderson appointed Pastor Simmons to Lighthouse COGIC, located at 144 Reynolds Street, after the demise of the founding Pastor, Superintendent Walter J. Monroe. At this merger, the church was named Lighthouse Liberty Temple COGIC. In later years, the church voted to rename it Liberty Temple Ministries COGIC, Inc.

With his new appointment, his enduring commitment, dedication, and faithfulness, God gave Pastor Simmons a vision to enlarge his territory and allowed him to acquire the necessary property to erect a new edifice. Thus, the institution of a major Building Expansion Project was born.

Over the next 20 years, with much prayer and fasting, dedicated and consistent fundraisers by members and friends, plus donations from churches and individuals, and ultimately God’s favor, the vision has been realized.  The new sanctuary was completed in August 2018. To God be the GLORY for the things He has done!
